24 HOUR FITNESS SUPPORTS GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER’S LEADERSHIP ON TEEN FITNESS INITIATIVE
SAN RAMON, Calif., (January 24, 2007) – 24 Hour Fitness today commended California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s newest fitness initiative challenging 20,000 students, in grades K-12, to set a goal of 30-60 minutes of physical activity per day, at least three days per week for one month.
Like the Governor, 24 Hour Fitness realizes the severity of childhood obesity and the importance physical fitness plays in combating this epidemic. Since October 2005, 24 Hour Fitness has continued to support Governor Schwarzenegger's dedication to health and wellness by offering free 30-day fitness passes to students.
Today’s challenge is only one component of the Governor’s “Healthy Action Programs” that encourages Californians to take personal responsibility and increase their physical activity to ensure healthier living. These programs benefit people who take preventative health actions by participating in smoking cessation, diabetes management, weight reduction, breast cancer screenings and immunizations programs with vouchers and credits for health-related goods, services and items, such as health club memberships and weight loss programs.
“The governor continues to be a leader in prevention and wellness, and we applaud him for making these fitness initiatives the cornerstones of his health care reforms,” said Mark Mastrov, chairman and founder. “At 24 Hour Fitness, we're taking a similar approach to keeping our employees healthy by providing affordable health care options and offering health education and training for all eligible team members.”
Students can download the free 24 Hour Fitness 30-day pass at www.calgovcouncil.org.
