Non-profit for Visually Impaired Receives Assortment of Fitness Equipment to Revamp Gym
SAN RAMON, CALIF. - Jan. 11, 2011
24 Hour Fitness, the largest privately-owned U.S. fitness club chain, is excited to announce the donation of fitness equipment to Junior Blind of America, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled achieve independence. The assortment of professional-quality strength and cardio equipment will go towards updating the organization’s existing gym; and will benefit the hundreds of visually-impaired students and staff who attend the Junior Blind.
"Junior Blind of America relies on the generosity of organizations like 24 Hour Fitness who help us give thousands of adults and children who are blind or visually impaired the tools they need to reach their ultimate potential," said Miki Jordan, president and chief executive officer, Junior Blind of America. “The donation from 24 Hour Fitness will be of tremendous help, assisting many of our students who use our gym for rehabilitation and fitness purposes."
The donation was made after 24 Hour Fitness® member, Chris Anguiano, became the victim of a brutal case of mistaken identity. Serious head trauma sustained during the attack left Anguiano legally blind, unable to walk on his own and in need of much rehabilitation due to brain damage. Since the incident, Junior Blind’s Davidson Program for Independence has taught Anguiano new life skills to help him achieve his highest levels of mental and physical wellness. To assist with his physical rehabilitation, the equipment donated by 24 Hour Fitness will provide Anguiano (and other students) the fitness tools needed to maintain an active lifestyle.
"The 24 Hour Fitness team is dedicated to improving lives in the communities that we serve through fitness," said Mark Foley, executive vice president and chief talent officer, 24 Hour Fitness. "The Junior Blind is an amazing organization that supports thousands who are visually impaired, and we are happy to support Chris and the other Junior Blind students with this donation of fitness equipment.”
