24 Hour Fitness® Announces Plans to Support Team USA at 2012 Olympic Games in London
Fitness Leader Welcomes Team USA at High Performance Training Center, Supports Hopefuls Training in the U.S.
SAN RAMON, Calif. - July 27, 2011
In celebration of the one-year countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, 24 Hour Fitness, proud partner of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) since 2003 and Official Fitness Center Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team, announced today its plans to support Team USA athletes in the U.S. and abroad.
Supporting Team USA for the fifth consecutive Olympic Games and second consecutive Paralympic Games, 24 Hour Fitness worked in conjunction with the USOC to outfit a High Performance Training Center (HPTC) for Team USA athletes in London. The facility, a 6,000 square foot structure featuring cardio, strength and conditioning equipment, specifically accommodates the training needs of the Team USA delegation of more than 550 athletes as they prepare for Olympic competition. The HPTC, located on the Docklands Campus of the University of East London, will be staffed by an elite group of specially-trained 24 Hour Fitness® Team Members who will be onsite to provide training and sports performance support to the U.S. Olympians.
“While competing in Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games, my teammates and I loved having access to the state-of-the art High Performance Training Center and support of 24 Hour Fitness,” said Kerri Walsh, two-time Olympic volleyball gold medalist.
In addition to on-site support in London, 24 Hour Fitness provides U.S. athletes with state-of-the-art equipment at three U.S. Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Chula Vista, Calif.; and Lake Placid, N.Y. Currently, these facilities support more than 30,000 athletes throughout the year as they train and prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
As part of its partnership with the USOC, 24 Hour Fitness provides an Elite Membership and Incentive Program to 17 National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and seven Paralympic sports, valued at more than $1 million. This program was designed to provide first-class gym and training access to more than 1,500 U.S. athletes along with providing a means of fundraising for these organizations. Through its support of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), NGBs and Paralympic sports, 24 Hour Fitness is one of the largest supporters of amateur athletics in the country. Currently more than 500 Olympians and hopefuls are working out at 24 Hour Fitness locations across the country.
“The Olympic movement is a source of inspiration for our 21,000+ team members, members and people around the world and we are proud to continue our support of Olympic athletes for a fifth time through our partnership with the USOC,” said Carl Liebert, chief executive officer, 24 Hour Fitness. “Our company strives to provide the best fitness tools, services and support to our members whether they are simply trying to improve their health or they are Olympic hopefuls pursuing their dream of bringing home the gold.”
