24 Hour Fitness® Proudly Supports Augie's Quest and Clubs for the Quest
Fitness Club Leader Hosts Nationwide Donation Drive in Support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s ALS Research Initiative Founded by Augie Nieto
SAN RAMON, Calif. - Aug. 18, 2011
24 Hour Fitness, the nation’s largest privately-owned U.S. fitness club chain and a health club industry pioneer, proudly announces its support of Augie’s Quest and Clubs for the Quest. Augie Nieto, co-founder and former president of Life Fitness and chairman of Octane Fitness, started Augie’s Quest in conjunction with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) – a form of muscular dystrophy - in 2005. The Augie’s Quest mission is to raise money to find treatments and a cure for ALS. Clubs for the Quest is the organization’s national fundraising campaign that unites fitness clubs across the country to increase awareness and generate funds to support ALS research.
“24 Hour Fitness is honored to support Augie’s Quest and join forces with our fitness industry peers to raise funds and awareness for the treatment and cure of ALS,” said Carl Liebert, chief executive officer, 24 Hour Fitness. “Augie is an inspiration for all of us and we are proud to be able to continue our support of his mission through the Clubs for the Quest program to help fight this tragic disease.”
In support of the cause, 24 Hour Fitness donated $10,000 to Augie’s Quest and is hosting a donation drive to support Clubs for the Quest from August 24 through September 7. Members and Team Members are encouraged to donate as little as $1 - $5 at their local 24 Hour Fitness® club. Guests are also welcome to make donations, and can visit 24hourfitness.com to find a club near them and download a FREE Pass.
“24 Hour Fitness has been a great partner of Augie’s Quest for many years,” said Nieto. “Their generous support, combined with the funds raised from their club members and team members, will help us find a cure and improve the lives of those who suffer from ALS.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord in control of voluntary muscle movement. To learn more about Augie’s Quest and Clubs for the Quest, please visit www.augiesquest.org.
