24 Hour Fitness Announces Sponsorship Plans for Team USA at the London 2012 Olympic Games
U.S. Fitness Club Industry Leader Sponsors Team USA for the 5th Olympic Games and 2nd Paralympic Games
SAN RAMON, CALIF. - Apr. 17, 2012
In celebration of the 100-day countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games, 24 Hour Fitness, a proud official sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee and the Official Fitness Center Sponsor of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams, has unveiled its plans in support of Team USA this summer.
“Our sponsorship of the USOC is a natural partnership, given our similar commitments in helping people toward reaching their performance goals - whether they are U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls or working out for the very first time,” said Carl Liebert, chief executive officer, 24 Hour Fitness. “Every day, 24 Hour Fitness supports the fitness goals of our four million members across the country, and it’s an honor to support the U.S. Olympic Team at the London 2012 Olympic Games by doing what we do best – helping people succeed with fitness and performance.”
As part of the company’s sponsorship plans, 24 Hour Fitness has designed a program that ensures support of Team USA before, during and after the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. Efforts include:
- Support in the design and outfitting of Team USA’s High Performance Training Center (HPTC) in London
- Staffing of the HPTC by 24 Hour Fitness Ambassadors
- Equipment donations and expertise at U.S. Olympic Training Centers
- Partnerships with four U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes and hopefuls for the 2012 Games who will represent the company as Team 24 Hour Fitness
- Fitness support for more than 500 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes and hopefuls
About the High Performance Training Center
24 Hour Fitness provided technical insight and consultation to the USOC to help design and outfit the HPTC – a state-of-the-art training facility located in East London. The HPTC is where Team USA’s delegation of more than 500 athletes will train and prepare to compete for the gold.
Kerri Walsh, two-time USA Olympic Gold Medalist in beach volleyball and two-time Team 24 Hour Fitness athlete said, “I look forward to training at the High Performance Training Center. I know 24 Hour Fitness has the expertise to create the best possible workout environment – it’s tremendous support for us in the critical days leading up to competition.”
In 2008, the company sponsored the USOC’s HPTC at Beijing Normal University for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Like the HPTC at Beijing Normal University, the new facility in East London will be left behind as a legacy to serve university students and faculty for many years to follow after the Games.
To help Team USA train at home, 24 Hour Fitness also provides U.S. athletes with state-of-the-art equipment at three U.S. Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Chula Vista, Calif.; and Lake Placid, N.Y. Currently, these facilities support more than 30,000 athlete visits throughout the year.
24 Hour Fitness also selected 28 of its employees to serve as Fitness Ambassadors in London, where they will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support Team USA with their sports performance training needs. Chosen by merit, performance and their ability to improve lives through fitness - the distinguished group of fitness professionals was selected from more than 400 – 24 Hour Fitness® clubs and 21,000 employees across the U.S. In London, they will help manage the operations of the HPTC and ensure U.S. athletes have the support they need for optimal performance during the Games.

The company is proudly partnered with four U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes and hopefuls:

Approaching the Games, these signature workouts will be made available at the company's page on YouTube.
