Second Year in a Row, 24 Hour Fitness Ranked as Top 25 Military Friendly Spouse Employer
Military Spouse Magazine Recognizes Fitness Leader for Ongoing Commitment to Recruiting and Employing Military Spouses
SAN RAMON, CALIF. - November 21, 2012
SAN RAMON, Calif. -Fitness club industry leader, 24 Hour Fitness announced today that it has been designated as one of the 2013 Top 25 Military Friendly Spouse Employers by Military Spouse magazine for the second consecutive year. The U.S. fitness club chain ranked fourth in the annual list after having ranked 17th in the publication’s 2012 list. The list recognizes companies that hire spouses of active duty service members and make an effort to develop workforce development policies that acknowledge the unique challenges of military life. 24 Hour Fitness was recognized for its forward-looking policies that support the unique employment needs of military spouses.
This accolade follows the company’s recent ranking in the 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employers List by G.I. Jobs magazine where it ranked No. 74.
“We are greatly honored to once again receive recognition as a military spouse friendly company and to support the men and women of our nation’s armed forces,” said Carl Liebert, president and CEO, 24 Hour Fitness. “My wife’s support was invaluable to me while I was in the Navy and deployed thousands of miles away from home. As a veteran, I can appreciate the challenges our military families face each and every day.”
The list was compiled from data collected by Military Spouse’s sister magazine G.I. Jobs. G.I. Jobs surveyed companies across the nation to find out which ones are the best places for people transitioning out of the military and into civilian jobs. G.I. Jobs considered job-hunting military spouses when they distributed the Military Friendly Employers® list survey. The survey contained questions that addressed spouses’ biggest concerns, which included flexibility when their spouse is deployed and opportunities for continued employment and advancement in the midst of frequent moves. “At 24 Hour Fitness, we pride ourselves on a diverse culture and we support team members from all walks of life, including our military families,” said Mark Foley, executive vice president and chief people officer, 24 Hour Fitness. “We are both honored and proud that Military Spouse Magazine has selected us from thousands of companies to receive this prestigious accolade.”
24 Hour Fitness provides all team members with a dynamic, diverse and growth-oriented workplace that offers opportunities for personal and professional development, excellent benefits, and encourages family health and wellness. Many 24 Hour Fitness® team members have built strong careers within the company – some as personal trainers, others as passionate corporate executives and many who started at the front desk of a 24 Hour Fitness club and grew into leadership roles. This year, 24 Hour Fitness established its Military Recruiting Council (MRC), a specialized team responsible for the development and execution of the company’s military recruitment programs. The council is comprised of 24 Hour Fitness employees who have previously served or supported the U.S. armed forces.
24 Hour Fitness supports active, reserved and retired U.S. service members and their families with equipment donations and free military workouts during Memorial Day and Veterans Day, among other efforts. Most recently, the company partnered with TRX during San Francisco’s Fleet Week, where the two fitness companies hosted a series of events to celebrate and showcase the importance of fitness to the U.S. military and raised more than $6,000 for the Semper Fi Fund. Additionally, 24 Hour Fitness supports Jessica’s Hope Project – a non-profit organization that sends health-oriented care packages to U.S. military deployed overseas in many different parts of the world.
