Guests Invited to Oct. 18 Zumba Fitness-Parties Across the U.S. to Raise Funds for the Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention in Partnership with Susan G. Komen®
SAN RAMON, Calif. - October 18, 2013
On Friday, Oct. 18, 24 Hour Fitness® clubs across the U.S. will host exclusive "Party in Pink" Zumbathon charity events (Zumba classes for charity) presented by FitMiss to support breast cancer research. With a $10 minimum donation, members and guests can dance the evening away to high-energy, easy-to-follow choreography set to global rhythms, in support of the Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention, the first ever medical research grant named for the Zumba program toward preventative research. Funds raised at these events will contribute toward leading-edge research to prevent breast cancer before it starts.
“We are thrilled to open our doors to the community in support of two organizations that share our passion in improving lives for the better,” said Bobbi Quick, senior director of fitness operations, 24 Hour Fitness. “Studies show regular exercise can help reduce the risk of breast cancer.* The group exercise classes we offer help make fitness fun, motivating and rewarding, and we are proud to offer healthy activities that have such positive impact on the quality of people’s lives.”
Attendees will enjoy hour-long Zumba fitness-parties where they'll dance off the calories and lose themselves in the music. Funds collected through the event will be donated directly to Komen to support the Zumba Global Research Grant for Breast Cancer Prevention. The grant will fund a study administered by Komen evaluating the lignans found in flaxseed as a safe, low-cost, highly accessible solution to help prevent breast cancer in pre-menopausal women on a global scale.
“Everything about the Zumba experience is personal—from the decision to take that first class; to the relationships that grow between participants and their instructors; to the joy, happiness and improved quality of life that flows through the families of every class participant,” said Alberto Perlman, CEO and co-founder of Zumba Fitness. “So it is fitting that we’ve taken steps to make our ‘Party in Pink’ mission more personal and specifically focused on prevention, which in turn benefits everyone in every nation. By helping to fund research for a preventative solution to this critical disease, it is our hope that we will be able to touch—and ultimately save—millions of lives.”
