24 Hour Fitness and KaBOOM! team up
to bring play back to Houston

24 Hour Fitness and KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing play back into the lives of children, are teaming up to build new playgrounds in Houston communities impacted by Hurricane Ike. The partnership will help children in the region get fit and stay healthy while aiding communities that are recovering from the storm. During October 2008, 24 Hour Fitness pledged to donate $1 from the monthly dues of Houston-area members to KaBOOM! to help build the playgrounds.

The first of two playgrounds were built on December 13 at FUUSA (Families Under Urban & Social Attack) in Houston’s Third Ward community. The second playground was built on Saturday, February 7 at the Spring Branch Family Development Center. In total, over 600 volunteers moved 1,300 cubic yards of mulch, mixed 15,000 pounds of concrete and spread over 50 gallons of paint. They built benches, planted trees and burned thousands of calories. Together, 24 Hour Fitness, KaBOOM! and community volunteers from Houston shared enough laughs and smiles to fuel a community for years to come.

Houston Playground

Volunteers from 24 Hour Fitness and FUUSA joined together to build a playground for Houston area kids. Throughout the day volunteers were jumping, running and hauling piles of mulch to the playground.
