meet Adler Volmar
Adler Volmar first competed in the Olympic Games in Atlanta for Haiti at age 19. He will make his second bid for Olympic glory in Beijing but this time representing the United States.
Adler’s 16 years in judo have included struggle and sacrifice. Early this year, he was working with U.S. teammate Anthony Turner. The 300-lb. heavyweight landed on Adler’s left knee, resulting in an injury that required surgery and kept Adler off the mat and unable to earn enough tournament points for funding from USA Judo.
He made a remarkable comeback after surgery and in his first post-op tournament won two gold medals in El Salvador. His next trip to the mat was at the US Olympic Team Trials, where he attained a best-of-three victory over long-time rival Brian Picklo to qualify for the Beijing Games.
