Bringing a Healthier Lifestyle to School Children across the Country

24 Hour Fitness teams up with Sports4Kids to help bring recess, play, and ultimately a healthier lifestyle to school children across the country.

In many communities today - especially low-income communities - kids come to school not really knowing how to engage in healthy play. Too often, games end in fights - and more complicated games break down before they can really get going. Most kids end up on the sidelines, disengaged. Many schools feel they have no choice but to cut recess.

The result? Kids are at greater risk for obesity, diabetes and attention difficulties. Together we’re fighting against this by helping to bring recess, play and ultimately a healthier lifestyle to school children across the country.

About Sports4Kids

Sports4Kids is a national nonprofit organization that supports learning by providing safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity to low-income schools at recess and throughout the entire school day. Through its unique on-site program, Sports4Kids provides a well-trained, full-time “coach” at each partner school. The coaches work with students and teachers to transform recess and play into healthy tools for engaging children in learning, physical activity, social and cognitive development every day. Sports4Kids is the only organization in the country to provide full-time play and physical activity programming on-site at schools.

The Sports4Kids program currently serves close to 65,000 children in 170 schools in eight cities across the country, and is poised to serve more than 650 schools in 27 cities by the end of 2012. No other organization in the world has more experience bringing a healthy recess, play and physical activity to schools than Sports4Kids. In addition to providing a healthy, active, respectful and inclusive recess, Sports4Kids provides class game time support, leadership development, after-school programming and developmental sports leagues.

Sports4Kids works exclusively with low-income schools. To qualify for Sports4Kids on their campus, at least 50 percent of their student enrollment must be eligible for free/reduced school lunches

For schools and communities that don’t meet minimum income standards, Sports4Kids offers a full training and technical support program, which trains adults to bring healthy, respectful and inclusive play and physical activity to children.
