Forty Pounds Lost and SO Much More Gained with Personal Trainer Greg F.

At 42 I found that it was no longer believable to blame my weight gain on my pregnancies as my kids were all teenagers. I had struggled for years to lose weight and the prospect of trying again and failing was overwhelming to me. I had reached a point where I was feeling bad physically and emotionally and I lacked energy. My sleep patterns were off and I had chronic back and leg pain.

It was at this point that I was given Greg’s business card. I was terrified of calling him and furious with myself for being terrified. Meeting with a personal trainer was the last thing I imagined myself doing. I wondered how I would afford it and how I would fit it into my schedule—but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. How could I NOT do it?

My first meeting with Greg was better than I thought it would be. He had me keep a food diary so he had an idea of how I was eating. His focus on nutrition was impressive and his overall knowledge of nutrition and physiology calmed me down and allowed me to think that this could finally be my answer.

We discussed my goals and he assessed my fitness level. My first time in the gym with Greg was brutal, to say the least. I was incredibly out of shape and felt completely uncoordinated. But I quickly found that no matter how many times I complained or swore, Greg was not going to let me lose focus of my goals.

I have now been training with Greg for about six months. He has been a constant motivator for me, focusing on strength training, nutrition and cardio. I love that no two sessions are alike and that I always learn something new. He has helped me change my nutrition as needed and put together some individualized cardio workouts for me to do on my own. He’s been a good listener and extremely patient with me. I really appreciate that he is so focused on proper form and he fully explains everything we do.

About six weeks into my training with him, he encouraged me to attend a group cycling class at the gym. I went, reluctantly, and although I was not good at it and could not keep up with the class—I loved it! I have been going regularly ever since and have totally surprised myself with how far I have come. Group cycle is something that I never would have done on my own and now I can’t see myself ever not doing it.

I am so grateful to Greg for all that he has done for me. He is enthusiastic and obviously loves what he does. I have lost about forty pounds and feel so much better, physically and emotionally. My energy level is improved, I sleep better and my back pain has resolved. I know that had I not met Greg and started training with him, I would be in an entirely different and unhealthy position right now and for that I am so grateful. I finally exercise regularly again and have improved balance and endurance. I know that it is because Greg has pushed me and given me the motivation and accountability that I did not have before.
