Bio

When I was fifteen I was introduced to organized sports. Never very physically active as a kid, wrestling and cross-country gave me an outlet for restless energy, inspired my competitive spirit and gave me a better understanding of my body. I eventually assumed the role of team captain of my wrestling team, and found that I enjoyed instructing and helping others just as much as competing. After suffering various injuries, including multiple subluxations of both shoulders, I became particularly interested in injury rehabilitation and prevention. I came to UCSB with that in mind, enrolling in classes such as physiology, kinesiology and nutrition. Inspired by engaging professors and growing personal interest, I completed the Exercise and Sports Studies minor with an emphasis in Personal Fitness Instruction. Soon after, I acquired my personal training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I graduated UCSB in spring 2011 with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies, another passion of mine. For me, an appreciation for the beauty and complexity of nature and natural processes is the foundation of my fascination with the human body. My favorite things to do combine my loves for fitness and the environment, such as hiking, biking and almost any other outdoor activity. When in the gym I love making workouts fun and functional, establishing fitness that enhances people's quality and enjoyment of life. Since joining 24 Hour Fitness I have been working on rehabilitating my shoulder injuries left over from years of wrestling. Very quickly I have gone from gently working my atrophied rotator cuff muscles with no weight at all to making enormous strength gains in my deltoid muscles and establishing a proper kinetic chain action at my shoulder girdle. It inspires me as a trainer to look back at this progress from physical discomfort and weakness to healthy functioning and increasing strength, because it shows the powerful impact a careful training regimen can have.
