I was born in East Hempstead Long Island, New York and spent the first three years of my life in an orphanage in Brooklyn. My two older brothers and I were separated and placed into the Foster care system until I was adopted at the age of seven. As a teenager, in the early 80s, I started getting into boxing when a friend at the local recreation center started teaching and training me. After winning a few neighborhood fights, I started training seriously at the Cage Recreation Center in White Plains, New York (just outside the Bronx, which produced over 40 Golden Glove Champions.) I was able to build an impressive record of 20 fights, 20 wins, and all 20 wins coming by way of Knockout. Unfortunately, for my boxing career, I joined the United States Air Force and the boxing career came to an end, or at least the fighting. After serving 7 years in the Air Force, which included a tour of duty in the first Desert Storm, I began having back issues. From 1999 to 2010 I had four surgeries, including a lumbar fusion and cervical fusion. I became overweight and unable to do any physical activity (I was put on a 50 pound lifting restriction for life). Finally, I decided to take back my life - now, at the age of 47, I am in better shape than I was when I was 30. It was during my comeback that I began to see how fitness can change a person's life and decided that I wanted to help others take their lives back. Now, I tell people that I love working with fighters not just the ones who step into the ring, but all those who are fighting for a better quality of life.
