I grew up in a very active family and even played three sports in college: volleyball, basketball, and soccer. I went on to coach collegiate volleyball and teach courses in health and nutrition. Fitness was always a part of my life, something I participated in for fun, but not really for my health. In May of 2011, I was in a rollover accident that required emergency surgery and I was left with a nine inch scar down my stomach and several broken bones. I found myself in a place I had never been before. I had to re-learn the simplest movements, and these lessons I learned during my long recovery are invaluable to me. There were times when I wanted to give up, when I compared my past to my present and just felt overwhelmed at the distance left to go. The battle was as much mental as physical but I knew I couldn't let my spirit be broken along with my body. I pressed on and set new goals every day as my strength returned. Eventually I made a full recovery, and developed a new respect for the human body. Because I had been active before the accident, I was able to recover at a much faster pace. I now have a passion for teaching others that same lesson. Please do not wait when it comes to getting healthy. Take care of yourself now! I truly believe that the only things you need to get in shape are education and motivation. Most people have one or the other. They may know what to do but can't seem to do it consistently, or they are really motivated but not sure what to do. That's where I come in, providing the other half, or sometimes both! The most rewarding thing to me is watching confidence and knowledge build in someone until they are able to take their health into their own hands and achieve their goals.
